From 1858 to 1861, Camp Floyd housed the largest concentration of troops in the United States.. The History
The troops were stationed at this fort, located in Fairfield, in anticipation of a Mormon rebellion. The rebellion never came, of course, and the Civil War forced the United States government to call the troops back east. A cemetary and commissary building remain from the camp. Stagecoach Inn, located nearby, was a stop on the Pony Express as well as the historic route west to California. The inn has been restored and is open from Easter through October.
