The History – The troops were stationed at this fort, located in Fairfield, in anticipation of a Mormon rebellion. The rebellion never came, of course, and the Civil War forced the United States government to call the troops back east. A cemetary and commissary building remain from the camp. Stagecoach Inn, located nearby, was a stop on the Pony Express as well as the historic route west to California. The inn has been restored and is open from Easter through October.
