Warm Friendly Bunch.... These guys are busy... Because they are so good at what they do. The guns end of the place is halfway closed as Norm is about retired but Alan who runs the DJ equipment/Music Equipment/ PA end of things is so helpful and knowledgeable. As another reviewer has mentioned Alan is busy... and essentially a store within a store. There may be other people there but they do not know how to sell or help with his end of the business. Expect some time to be spent there on a busy day waiting your turn. I purchased my first set of speakers in 1989 directly from Alan at the Provo location off of 500 West. He helped me with my first speakers, amps, crossovers & light controllers... we soldered burned up triacs on the thing together in the store. He really cares and knows more about dance club lights and sound systems than most have forgotten.

The Definition of Poor Customer Service. Most reviews are based on a single bad experience and, to me, it's pretty unfair to pass judgement without giving second (or third) chances.

That being said, I've visited Van Wagenen's several times over the past several years because, unfortunately, they are the only local store that carries a specific brand and model of product I need.

Without exception, every time I have stopped in, I've expressed need for assistance and have been completely ignored. I could understand this if there are a lot of customers competing for attention - if so, at least acknowledge the other customers and kindly let them know you'll get to them in turrn - we're okay waiting if we see you're busy and are trying to get to everyone. However, these guys flat out ignore you until they finish their conversation and can be bothered to acknowledge your existence. When they finally get around to helping you, don't expect courteous service.

It's a pawn shop - I get it. I don't expect Nordstrom treatment, but this place borders on outright hostility to customers. Enjoy your visit with this sour bunch.
